Help at the UPI MAP Tables

Members of UPI continue to volunteer their time collecting postcards in support of MAP funding reinstatement. Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 3, UPI has a table in Village Square where people can show their support by signing the postcards that will be sent to their legislators.

Faculty, please encourage your students to visit these tables.

MAP Funding

The restoration of MAP funds is a common goal for the entire university community. Please encourage your students to access any of the resources sent out on our UPI listserv or mentioned in President Hahs’ most recent email. Many groups, as the President noted, are working to reduce this clear threat to higher education and future of our students. We cannot afford to pass on the responsibility to others and hope that someone will do something. It is not the time to be passive or nurse old grudges; it must be the union of many voices that educates the legislature about the impact of MAP cuts on Illinois students and the future of higher education.

Take a look at these recent articles from the Daily Herald, Alestlelive and The Southern. The articles are interesting and in favor of the restoration of MAP funding but take a look at the comments. It is not only the legislators that need to hear about the importance of MAP.

Negotiations Update

Today, your UPI negotiating team met with the administration to discuss options that will move us toward a successful contract settlement. We agreed to move out of the IBB process and will forward a joint request to FMCS (Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service) for assistance.

Over the next few weeks, your UPI team will be preparing a contract proposal to pass to the administration when next we meet for negotiations.
