Negotiations update

The UPI team met with the administration today. Last week the administration passed sample employment status statements (Articles 22 and 31) and today, edited versions of these statements were passed back to the administration. Some discussion occurred about the edits but no agreement was reached and we await a response from the administration at the next negotiations session.

The administration did not pass any counter proposals today but instead raised questions about the sick leave bank proposed by the UPI in the Compensable Fringe Benefits article (19). The UPI team caucused and prepared an explanation about the sick leave bank and reviewed the union position on fractional leaves (Article 18). The latter had been a point of contention for the UPI and the administration.

The UPI team returned to negotiations with an explanation about the sick leave bank and suggested that an agreement had been reached on fractional leaves and that a tentative agreement could be signed for Article 18 at our next negotiations session. The administration responded that they would prepare a response to the UPI proposal on the Compensable Fringe Benefits article at the next session.

Meetings scheduled through July: May 18, June 11, June 16, July 7, July 14, July 21

Given the pace of negotiations, the UPI team does not believe that the contract can be settled by the end of July with only six more sessions and we proposed the addition of the following dates (Saturdays included) to the administration.

June: 2, 4, 14, 18, 19, 21, 25, 26, 28, 30
July: 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31
